I love carving Dwarves. 4 inches tall, carved from a 2 inch by 2 inch block of Basswood. Finished with Black Walnut danish oil and buffed with paste finishing wax immediately after oiling. That pulls oil out of the high spots, leaving the recesses darker. #woodcarving #fantasy #fantasyart #lotr #dnd

Why do so many woodcarvers use Boiled Linseed oil to protect their carvings? The answer is 2 fold. Number 1, the oil will Polymerize into the wood as it cures converting into a polymer and hardening into the fibers of the wood. that makes the carving more robust and durable. Number 2, with this oil now in the fibers of the wood you have significantly less bleed through from one area to another when painting. #woodcarving #whittling #woodfinish #woodart #folkart
