Poplar *can* be a substitute for basswood if you dont have access to basswood. Just understand the caveats. one of the wonderful things about basswood is that it has a much more consistent density than other woods. That makes basswood superior for new folks learning to carve, and easier on the hands. If i didnt have access to basswood though, poplar might be a better choice over many of the alternatives. #woodcarving #whittling #woodart #folkart #missouri
