Look what I got in the mail! Managed to find a study stick from ’93, a Dave Stetson one. Absolutely a treasure! Study Sticks are resin casting of original woodcarvings, used to show step by step processes on how to find more intricate shapes in wood. This one in particular concentrating on facial features. #woodcarving #whittling #woodart #sculpture #folkart

Just resharing this epic carve i did in class with THE Rich Wetherbee last year. We took his pirate roughout (left side) and turned it into Davey Jones. (Right side) This is not a display of my skill alone, this is a carving done in a class. This is a display of what you can achieve when standing on the shoulders of carvers who want to teach and propel you. I stepped out of my comfort zone, and tried something fun and crazy with Rich. He guided me, helped me have insights that were immeasurable. Its the clearest photo I can point to and say
